Articles

Journal of Art & Design is a journal that includes research, reviews and evaluations in the fields of art and design and it also brings together innovative, modern and contemporary pursuits with an interdisciplinary perspective. Art & Design Journal is published online. It aims to provide scientific and academic contribution to artistic culture and art literature.

Journal of Art & Design publishes studies in the fields of painting, sculpture, printing arts, graphics, ceramics, glass, interior architecture, architecture, music, performing arts, photography, cinema, traditional arts, fashion design, art history, art criticism and the relations between these disciplines. It includes articles such as original research, review, letter to the editor, and case presentation discussing contemporary and current issues.

Instructions for Authors
1. Manuscripts should be written in Word program in A4 size, Times New Roman font, 12 font size, with a 1.5 line spaced and justified text.
2. Page margins should be set as follows; right side 2.5, left side 2.5, top 3 cm, bottom 3 cm.
3. Page numbers should be written in the lower right corner in 10 point.
4. The space between paragraphs should be 0 pt before and 6 pt after each paragraph.
5. The first page of the article should include the title of the article, the names of the author(s), academic title(s), institution/institutions, art/science department, summary of the text and keywords. The title of the article and the names of the authors should be left aligned. One line space should be left between the title of the article and the names of the authors, and between the names of the authors and the title of the abstract.
Author/authors should write their titles and names after the title on the abstract page. A single * for the first author, ** for the second author, *** for the third author should be added to the end of the names as well as footnote. The citation information and ORCID numbers should be added to the footnote. The postal address and e-mail address of the author to whom the correspondence will be made should be written as a footnote.

Footnote imprint example:
* University name, Faculty name, Department name, Division name, mail@mail.com, ORCID: xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx

6. Researchers who are not affiliated with any institution should add their e-mail addresses, city and ORCID numbers to the footnote. Also, on the first page, the institutions/organizations that support the study, etc., if any, should be indicated as a footnote.
7. If your article is derived from a thesis or dissertation, please provide the name of the institution to which it was submitted, the date of submission, the author(s), and the supervisor. In publications from a thesis, a single * should be given for the title, ** for the first author, *** for the second author, and the citation information should be shared in this order in the footnote.

8. Heading:
All headings including the Introduction should be numbered except the conclusion and references. All headings should be left aligned. The headlines at 3 different levels that can be used in the article should be arranged according to the following 3 rules;
· First-level headlines; It should be left aligned, bold, and all capital letters.
· Second-level headliness; It should be left aligned, bold, and the first letter of each word should be capitalized.
· Third-level headlines; Left aligned, bold and only the first letter of the first word should be capitalized. · One-line space is left before the subheadings.

· One line space should be left before the headings, and “3 pt” spacing should be given after the headings. One line space should be left after “Tables/charts, figures and visuals”.

9. Quotation:
a) Long direct quotation (more than 3 lines or 40 words); It is written as a separate paragraph, 2 points smaller than the font size used in the main text, and starting 2 cm from the left. Appropriate bibliography is cited at the end of the quotation.
b) Example of in-text representation of a direct short quote:
Later in the century, Heinrich Christoph Koch wrote that, “Batteux … and others teach that nature is the object of the artist's imitation (1787, 42–43).”

10. Abstract:
a) The title of the abstract should be written in capital letters, bold and left aligned. The abstract should be written justified, starting from the bottom line. It should not be less than 150 words and not more than 200 words except the letter to the editor section. In the abstract, equations, citations, non-standard abbreviations, examples, etc. should not be included.
b) The English abstract of the article must contain the title, keywords and the author information. Abstract and Abstract texts should be written in the same font and in the same format.
c) Turkish articles should have English abstracts and English articles should have Turkish abstracts.
d) In the abstract, the aim of the article, what it was done, how it was done (type of research, data collection and evaluation process, research method) and the most basic finding/findings, the most basic conclusion/results and, if necessary, solution suggestions should be presented.

11. Keywords:
a) At the bottom of the abstract, the “Keywords” section, consisting of at least 3 and maximum 5 words, should be added left aligned.
b) The first letter of each added keyword should be capitalized, if any, the second word should be written in lower case (except for proper names). A dot should be placed at the end.
c) English keywords for the text should be added after the word “Keywords” with the first letter of each keyword capitalized, if any, the second word should be written in lower case (expect for proper names). A full stop should be placed at the end.

Example:
Keywords: Art, Glass forming, Fusion technique, Louvre Museum.
12. Notation and abbreviations; Standard notation and abbreviations should be known in the relevant art/science field and should be given as footnotes on the relevant page.
13. The words and concepts to be emphasized in the text of the article can be written in italics.
14. Format of the article; INTRODUCTION, RELATED TOPICS, CONCLUSION EVALUATION and REFERENCES. Sub-titles can be added under the main titles when necessary. An impersonal expression, broad and past tense expressions should be used in the article. For articles whose publication language is English, the rules of that language apply.
15. Placement and writing of visuals, tables, figures, graphics, drawings, photographs and pictures:
a) The images including pictures, photographs, graphics, drawings, etc. Which are to be used in the articles should be in JPEG or TIFF format with 300 dpi resolution. If there is a text in the image or table, it should be legible in harmony with the main text. The texts in the tables should be left justified or centered. Whichever method is preferred, all tables in the article should be arranged in the same way.
b) The tag of the images should be given fully right under the image. In addition, the list of images and the reference of the images should be included in the references page. The visual tag should be written under the image and the tag of the table should be above the table, in Times New Roman font with 10 point. There should be a 6 pt space between the image and the image tag. There should be 6 pt space between the tag and the table.
c) Reference should be made before the relevant table/chart, figure and visual in the text. The reference can be given at the beginning of the sentence, in the sentence or at the end of the sentence.
For example: In the sentence; in the Visual/Table/Figure X…; in parentheses right after the relevant expression, sentence or paragraph (Image X), (Table X) ), (Figure X)).
d) Tables/charts, figures and images should be placed close to the place where they are first mentioned in the text, provided that they comply with the page layout principles.
e) Images used in the text (photographs, graphics, diagrams, formulas, technical drawings, images of the artist's work, etc.) and quotations from a work should be centered. Pictures can be placed side by side if necessary. Images should be placed with 0 pt 1 line space before and after the paragraphs before and after them.
f) Each table/chart, figure and image in the text has a number and a title. The words "table/schedule", "figure" and "visual" and their numbers are written in bold letters, titles and explanations are written in non-bold letters and "italic". A full stop is placed at the end. The imprint information for the artwork should be as follows; Image number (bold). Artist name, Artwork Name, Date, Technique/Material, Size, Location, Source. If the source is a book: (Author Surname, Date: Page number); if the resource was taken from the internet (http number).

*If images taken from museum sites are used, the English and Turkish translations of the copyrights section on the museum sites must be submitted to the journal together with the phrase “translated by……”.

g) It should be noted that the images to be used in the article are proportional to the text page.
16. References to other works in the text should be made using The American Psychological Association (APA) system.
17. Footnote; Footnotes explaining an idea in the text should be 10 points without changing the font. The text is written in vertical and normal letters, bold letters are used in the headings. Italics may only be used when necessary. Footnotes are numbered and no space is left between the footnote and the number. Footnotes in the text of the article start with the number ¹.
18. Number of Pages; The text should be prepared as a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 20 pages, including the abstract and references.
19. Only people who contributed to the relevant work should be considered as authors. At the end of the article, people with conflicts of interest, if any, should be declared.
20. The resources used are categorized under two headings as 'Resources' and 'Internet Resources'.All cited sources are listed alphabetically by the surnames of the authors.
21. Every source (other than the relevant legislation) included in the text must be included in the "Resources" section. A source included in "Resources" must also have reference links in the text. The information of the source in the text and the information in the "Sources" should be consistent. The author is responsible for the accuracy of the information given.
22. The rules to be followed while writing references are as follows:
a) References title is written on a new page, in capital letters, centered, bold, with the same font and size as the text.
b) References are written starting from the left edge of the writing area and no sign (dot, dash, asterisk) is placed at the beginning. The bibliography list should be created in the following format as alignment (within 1 cm from the second line).

c) If there is more than one source by the same author(s), they are sorted starting from the source with the oldest publication year.
d) If one of the multiple sources of the same author(s) has multiple authors, then the source with multiple authors is given later.
e) If the same author(s) has more than one source published in the same year, then the names of the studies are listed alphabetically and the order is made by adding letters such as “a, b, c, ç, d” respectively to the publication date in parentheses.
f) If there are works by different authors with the same surname, the order is made by considering the initials of their names.
g) Institution-authored sources are listed in “References” according to the initials of the institution/organization.
h) The reference the author of which is not known is sorted according to the first letter of the name of the work.
i) Internet resources are written in the "resources" section in the order in the article, together with the access dates.
j) Internet resources are numbered in parentheses as (http 1), (http 2) in the text.
k) The source must be specified in parentheses in the tags of the images. The information of the images taken from the internet source should be given under “Internet resources”.

l) Sources without dates are listed in “References” in alphabetical order.
m) Only resources with Internet addresses are listed at the end of the “Resources” with their access dates in the order in which they are presented in the text.
n) Legislation is not shown in “References”.
o) Books, articles and theses that have been accessed from the Internet even though they are in print, are displayed in the “References” in the same way as the printed publications.
p) Only the full Internet address and access date are given in e-resources that do not contain all or any of the imprint information such as the author, the title of the work, the date of publication, the name of the institution.
r) References such as TV shows, TV series, movies, music and sound recordings, or multimedia software are displayed in “References”.

SCOPE AND PUBLICATION PRINCIPLES
Art & Design Journal is published twice a year by Anadolu University Fine Arts Institute.

Art & Design Magazine includes studies in the fields of painting, sculpture, printing arts, graphics, ceramics, glass, interior architecture, architecture, music, performing arts, photography, cinema, traditional arts, fashion design, art history, art criticism and it also includes articles such as original research, review, letter to the editor and case presentation discussing contemporary and current issues that establish relationships between these disciplines. Technical articles such as construction and construction technologies in architecture are out of scope.

Art & Design Journal is a peer-reviewed journal that publishes scientific articles covering different fields of art and prepared with disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches. Submitted manuscripts are evaluated by the editor-in-chief or editors in terms of compliance with the journal's publication principles, writing rules, purpose and scope.

If the articles are out of the scope of the journal, they may be rejected by the Editor-inChief before they are sent to the field editor or the author/authors are requested to comply with these rules. The manuscripts that pass the preliminary examination are sent to the field editor determined by the editor-in-chief, and the process is started. The field editor appoints two academics who are experts in the subject as reviewers, and the evaluation process is carried out with the double-blinded method. The field editor sends the final report prepared by the reviewers, including their own evaluations, to the journal. The article that is found positive at the end of the report is directly included in the publication process. However, if a correction is requested from the author in the editorial report, the correction must be made and sent again within 20 days at the latest. The article, which is not corrected within this period, is removed from the editorial process. The author should send the final version of the article as a Word document. Applications of articles that were previously sent to the Art & Design Journal and rejected will not be accepted again.

The Copyright Transfer Agreement must be signed and sent by all authors. Authors are required to declare that the article is an original work, that they take full responsibility for the article, that the article has not been published elsewhere and has not been sent anywhere for publication, that the submitted article has been seen by the author/authors and that the results have been approved. After the article is uploaded to the system, no author can be added or removed. If such a situation occurs, the article will be deemed withdrawn and the evaluation process will be terminated.

The responsibility of the published articles belongs entirely to the author/authors. The journal does not accept any responsibility. The publication and printing rights of the articles accepted for publication are transferred to the journal.

Studies from fields such as Plastic Arts, Design, Architecture, Music, Performing Arts and studies that indicate the connections of these fields with the branches of science are accepted in the journal. Manuscripts that were previously published or accepted for publication and are being evaluated for publication in other journals are not taken into consideration.

The languages of the journal are Turkish and English.

Our journal is scanned by Web of Science Group, idealonline, ESCI (Emerging Sources Citation Index), EBSCO and TR-Dizin.

The editor- in-chief can make any kind of intervention without changing the content in order to preserve the linguistic integrity of the manuscript.

In the same issue of the journal; For single-author articles, more than one article by the same author will not be evaluated. For articles with more than one author, article applications by the same author with different authors are taken into consideration.

Articles suggested by the author should be sent in 2 separate files with the names of the authors and the names of the authors deleted, together with the plagiarism report, via email from “sanattasarim@anadolu.edu.tr” or electronically via DERGİPARK.

During the application, authors are required to send plagiarism reports scanned in iThenticate or Turnitin programs for all articles. Articles with a screening result of more than 15% will not be evaluated.
Our journal does not charge any application or publication fees.
Articles with the following features can be published in the journal:
1. Review: Comprehensive studies in which scientific and artistic works made until recently on a certain subject are used as a source.
2. Research Article: Articles written in scientific format that introduce original research and present its results.
3. Letter to the Editor: Comments, criticisms and corrections on the articles published in the Fine Arts Institute Peer-Reviewed Art & Design Journal.

Key Consideration
1. Anadolu University Fine Arts Institute Journal of Art & Design is a national peerreviewed journal published to publish qualified scientific articles in the fields of Fine Arts such as Plastic Arts, Design, Architecture, Music, Performing Arts.
2. Anadolu University Fine Arts Institute Art & Design Journal takes care to protect the property and copyright of every published article and to keep a record of every copy.
3. Anadolu University Fine Arts Institute Art & Design Journal is published electronically 2 times a year with the status of "Peer-Reviewed Journal" on the ULAKBİM DergiPark platform.
4. The articles sent to the Journal for publication are subjected to editorial process in terms of the suitability of the purpose, scope, method and writing principles, and the manuscripts that can be published.
5. The article should state whether it is necessary to obtain legal / special permission. If the study covers the application made in an institution, it should be clearly stated on which date and with which decision the permission has been obtained from the relevant institution.
6. For the use of scales, questionnaires, and photographs of other authors, permission must be obtained from the owners, and this must be stated in the article (citing the source).
7. As a result of the analysis of the article with the programs, iThenticate etc., the total similarity level should be below 15%.
8. No fee is paid to the authors for the articles published in the journal.
9. Manuscripts submitted for publication should not go against the scientific publication ethics (plagiarism, forgery, distortion, republishing, slicing, unfair authorship, not specifying the supporting organization, noncomplying with ethical rules in studies on animals, etc.).
10. Manuscripts submitted to the journal must not have been published elsewhere or sent for publication.
11. Only those who contribute to the study should be considered as authors. At the end of the article, the conflict of interest with the authors' contribution rates should be declared.
12. Reviewers, in case of any doubt, should consult to the Editor to make a decision regarding the review process in case of any conflicts-of interest. Researchers from authors' institutions should not be considered as reviewers to prevent any conflicts-of-interest.

Scope of Ethical Rules Regarding Author, Reviewer and Editor
Authors:
Only those who contribute to the study should be considered as authors.
Compliance of the articles with scientific and ethical rules is the responsibility of the authors.
At the end of the article, the conflict of interest with the authors' contribution rates should be declared.
In the articles, there should be a statement that the research and publication ethics are complied with.
The copyright regulations must be followed for the ideas and works of art used.
In case of direct quotation from other studies during the manuscript’s research process, the authors should be cited.
Bibliography list must be complete and the cited sources must be specified.
Author must undertake that the work is original and has not been published elsewhere in any language.
Multiple publications originating from a single research project should be clearly identified and referenced to the primary publication.
In case of that an author notices an error in her/his manuscript in theevaluation stage, s/he is obliged to inform the journal editor, and to cooperate with the editor in the correction or withdrawal processes.
A corresponding author should be selected from among the authors during the manuscript evaluation processes, and the corresponding author should undertake the communication with the issue editor.
Changes and adjustments made in the manuscript should be communicated to the all authors. This process is the responsibility of the corresponding author.
Author should cooperate in the evaluation process and respond to reviewer and editor requests in a timely and accurate manner.

Reviewers: Reviewers should be objective and conduct the reviews with privacy.
Reviewers should only accept the studies related to their field.
The review should aim to be constructive and polite and should not include offensive language.
The reviews should only be towards the study and the factors such as; religion, gender, race, ethnicity, political or corporate matters should not influence the outcome of the review.
The submissions accepted for review should be processed within the specified timing and in compliance with the ethical principles.
In the case of conflict of interests, the submission should be rejected and the editor-inchief should be notified.
The identity of the authors should be reached and the submissions of the authors whose identities are revealed should be rejected.
Reviewers are required to fill in the "Referee Evaluation Form" for the articles they evaluate. And they should include their final decision about the manuscript whether or not it should be published and why. Reddedilen çalışmaya dair hiçbir bilgi paylaşılmamalıdır. No information related to the rejected submissions should be shared or made public.

Editors: The editor is responsible for all articles published in the journal.
The editor is required to comply with the ethical responsibilities included in the ‘COPE Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors’ (https://publicationethics.org/files/Code_of_conduct_for_journal_editors_Mar11.pdf) and the ‘COPE Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors’ (https://publicationethics.org/files/u2/Best_Practice.pdf) published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) (https://publicationethics.org/) and listed below.
Field editor designated by the Editor-in-Chief of the field appoints at least 2 people from different institutions as reviewers to evaluate the article
The names of the Reviewers who evaluated the articles are not notified to the authors (blind peer review).
Editor or field editor, should be responsible to manage the review process and have the right of declining any submission in case of any conflict-of-interest.
The editor must request reviewers to assess the articles that are suitable for their knowledge and expertise. This way, it must be ensured that articles are appropriately assessed by people who are experts in their field.
The editor must constantly update the publication and writing rules and sample template regarding what is expected from authors.
Articles must include the submission and acceptance of publication dates.
S/he takes care to act in accordance with the principle of freedom of thought so that the works can be evaluated fairly and impartially.
S/he conducts business processes in accordance with intellectual property rights and ethical standards.
S/he strives to meet the information needs of readers and authors and constantly tries to ensure the development of the journal.
S/he protects the confidentiality of authors and reviewers and manages the reviewing process accordingly
